If it makes it so my bills don't rip as easy, why not? Plus, they say it's more cost effective to make it "plastic" like, like how Australia has their money. |

I like how my bills fold up nicely in my change purse, I just think it would be awkward to hold and carry. My wallet has enough in it as it is! But I must admit, I'm anxious to see designs, even though it's expected to appear in 2011! |

I heard about this on the news last night and it sounds like a good idea to me. Not only is it more cost effective, they last much longer and are supposed to be much harder to counterfeit. Australia has been using it since the 90's I believe so it is certainly not a new concept.
It sounds like they are not very much different to the paper money, just stronger. Edited by Doreen Winona Logeot, 2010-03-06 16:42:47 |

| | | Yes | | |
I see now that it can bend, the article made it sound like it didn't for some reason. |

Haha, I'm sure some of us could help you with that problem, I mean if you've got too much. |

Goodness, I must be having an off day. I meant my wallet has enough cards as it is. Mastercard, debit card, Petro gas card, CAA, Airmiles, safeway, Esso gas card, etc. My wallet very rarely has actual bills in it...poor university student! |

One less potential market for Canadian flax. The old bills had a fair amount of linen.... |

the law of unintended consequences. On the surface this is cool. Just like when th looney came out. I love it.
Now side b)
It seems some people forget we are a country where making paper goods creates a crap load of jobs. This is just another hit. I am not sure how this plastic "use" as a by product or a new demand fits into the tree hugger world but I think thats a good question!
Side b.1 now we know paper money has a lifespan. I am sure those new plastic things also have. Like some plastic that is not recylceable -- are they??
side b.2 -- Canadian Tire money -- its cool because they use they same makers as our current "cash" makers--- if they go that way at a higher cost to them-- will we get less of it--- will they cut the amount we get back??
I stand nuetral on this subject. I could be convinced if they sent out free samples of the 100 dollar variety -- just to check out!! |

Exactly.
I hate the new material they went to, its to easy to tear both new and after use. Half the time I can't even flaten it out without tearing it (fits in the till better flat). |

That's why I have 2 wallets. 1 for all my cash/money cards, the other for rewards. It makes life easier. |
