Sprechen Sie deutsch? For everyone German- speaking & interested

Hi

So I've been living in Brandon for awhile and every week I read that a group of french people get together just to chat.

It got me thinking - why not start a group for everyone just interested to get together and chat, have coffee AND speak Deutsch, bitte!!!

I notice how every year I lose more and more of my German vocabulary - Due to not speaking any German to anyone in Brandon.

I was thinking of maybe organizing a monthly meeting at forbidden flavours for anyone speaking German or interested to learn.

So anybody out there?

I had the same thought.

I think there is a club or group who plans the German pavilion during the winter festival who may already do this, not sure. My husband and I would both be interested in such a group. My german is now extremely rusty, but I'd like a chance to practice and learn more. Let us know if you get a group together!

One question...

About the Stammtisch: I've heard it consists of only german ex- military Soldiers with cdn wife's who have lived here for more than 20 years and barely even speak anymore or very little German.

Also I also heard that they are very selective on who is allowed to join their club too
Basically if have lived in Deutschland and you are Deutsch doesn't mean the German Society will welcome you with open arms.

Again only heard from other Germans who had several negative encounters with the german society.

My experience: I've send them once an email - about 7 or 8 months ago regarding volunteer possibilities or any activities. I was told nothing is going on.

So that what I experienced with them on a personal level.

Stammtisch

The German Society of Westman holds a Stammtisch in the Club room at the ANAF on the 3rd Monday of each month except when that Monday is a holiday then it is the Tuesday and we have discovered there is a lack of interest in June, July and August, so we do not meet then. Anyone is welcome to join us.

Is there a point to your question? Your remark is quite cryptic.

Re: One question

I do not recall any emails from you, but possibly at the time you sent your email there was nothing going on to volunteer for. But then again, I wouldn't know who you are, but I do think before you get badmouthing you should check your facts. I'd also like to know who the people were that had negative encounters with the German Society. As for Stammtisch as I stated before if you have a wish to join us you would be welcomed. Conversations take place in German and English because yes, not everyone speaks German but enjoy coming together. As for the ex-German Military guys......they all have a perfect command of their German and it is rather rude of you to state things you have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about. I do like eBrandon.ca as everyone has an opinion, but most hide behind a nickname.
